Yvonne Nelson teases political ambition in near future

The weight of the name Yvonne Nelson goes beyond the many zeros on cheques for her acting roles through to the voice that speaks up when Ghanaians are handicapped for a spokesperson against unfair treatment. For reference, take a down memory lane drive to her 2015 ‘Dumsor must stop’ vigil, which gathered over thousands of Ghanaians as well as celebrity friends to ‘walk the walk’ as a sign of protest and call on the then incumbent government (NDC) to address the issue of frequent blackouts in the country.

Now with less street protest, Yvonne does more on her social media handles (particularly Twitter) when the need arises, but it might not stay on as the only means for long as the adorable actress and producer has stated of a possible political career venture in the near future.

Speaking to Jessica Opare-Saforo on Citi FM, Yvonne stated that her new desired plans for politics was heavily inspired by the many people that told her she has the voice to fight for Ghanaians after the ‘Dumsor must stop’ vigil took over. “I think the whole thing started right after my ‘Dumsor must stop’ vigil. I started talking to people, they are like ‘Yvonne, you have the voice why don’t you go back to school, educate yourself and do politics.”

Despite the firm decision made to go into politics someday, the ‘House of Gold’ actress is however not certain yet as to which political party to affiliate with, “Now I know I really want to help the society, I now want to be that change in the society, help people and impact society in a positive way but then you need to align with one of these guys. But then, I don’t know and that is where it gets confusing and I won’t lie about it because we’ve all seen what is happening in the country and all the promises from both parties and we know what is happening on the ground. So, that’s where the confusion is,” Yvonne disclosed.

If ever Yvonne acts on her words, she openly joins the fold of actors that have transitioned from acting into politics such as; John Dumelo, Ebi Bright and Dzifa Gomashie.
