Glitz Africa Fashion Week, Ghana’s biggest fashion event is back with its eighth edition. Aside providing the platform for emerging and established designers to showcase their collections to a diverse fashion community, Glitz Africa Fashion Week is committed to grooming the next generation of talented designs to leave a mark in the fashion industry in Ghana and Africa and ultimately across the globe.
As part of this year’s GAFW, Glitz Africa partnered with the African Fashion Foundation (AFF) on the Young Design Talent to offer the opportunity to young designers to showcase their designs on the GAFW platform.
A call for applications for Young Design Talent was made on social media platforms; to which many young designers responded. The list of applications was shortlisted to 11 young designers who got the opportunity to engage with the Young Design Talent project mentors in a masterclass:
- Roberta Annan – Founder, African Fashion Foundation;
- Claudia Lumor – Founder, Glitz Africa Fashion Week;
- Selina Beb – CEO and Creative Director, Selina Beb
The shortlisted applicants presented their designs to the mentors and shared their inspirations behind them. The mentors shared their views on the presentations and offered them advice on building their brands.
After the masterclass, the project mentors deliberated on the presentations and concluded on two winners for the 2020 Young Design Talent:
- Christopher Akpo [of Subwaestudios brand]
- Daniel Opoku [of Nasarks brand]
Christopher and Daniel will be showcasing their designs at the Glitz Africa Fashion Week 2020.
Congratulations to them.
The runway shows begin at 5:30pm on November 7 at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Centre as well as on November 8 at the Octagon rooftop.
