Jordan Peele’s ‘US’ might have missed out on a 2020 Golden Globes nomination, but its journey to secure an Oscar nod is not totally shattered, as the African-American Film Critics Association has named it the best film of 2019.
Peele also won best director while the film star Lupita Nyong’o got named as the best actress of the year. Eddy Murphy’s 2019 return to the big screen with ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ scored him the best actor nod with Divine Joy Randolph named best supporting actress. Jamie Foxx is named best supporting actor for ‘Just Mercy’.
Other notable categories include; best foreign film and best screenplay going out to ‘Parasite’, best documentary ‘The Black Godfather’ and the impact award given to Melina Matsoukas’ debut feature ‘Queen & Slim’. ‘Waves’ actor Kevin Harrison Jr was awarded with the breakout performance award whiles his co-star Taylor Russel won the AAFCA We See You Award.
