Stonebwoy, Burna Boy among others to headline Africa Day Benefit Concert At Home”

 

Stonebwoy, Burna Boy, Sauti Sol, Nasty C, Diamond Platnumz, Yemi Alade,  Angelique Kidjo, Fally Ipupa, AKA, Teni and a host of others have been named headline acts for the ‘Africa Day Benefit Concert At Home’ in honor of the annual Africa Day celebration on May 25.

The upcoming virtual event hosted by ViacomCBS Networks Africa and YouTube in partnership with Hollywood actor/DJ Idris Elba is aimed at raising funds to benefit underprivileged children and families in Africa affected by the novel coronavirus. Proceeds will be used in generating food items and health equipment essential in fighting the pandemic.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the livelihoods of millions across the continent and is going to require a massive collaborative effort if we are to make it through. ViacomCBS Networks Africa is proud to partner with YouTube and Idris Elba as we lead the efforts for immediate food and health assistance on the continent at the Africa Day Benefit At Home concert. We are coming together as Africans to take care of our own,” Monde Twala, Senior Vice President for ViacomCBS Networks Africa Youth, Music & Entertainment Channels commented.

The 2-hour special concert will air on all MTV channels and streamed on the MTV Base Africa YouTube channel to be viewed by millions people across the continent.

“Taking a moment to shine a light on African arts to benefit the African homeland and its people. A continent of this size should find a way to dig deep and stand up for one another at a time like this. It’s important for the future and history will not forget,” disclosed Idris Elba.

The pandemic since its inception has sprout up lots of virtual concerts from around the world. There are those set in honor of frontline workers risking their lives to help save the world and those synonymous to the ‘Africa Day Benefit Concert At Home’ held to raise funds in support of affected families and individuals.

The world has so far witnessed concerts such as the ‘One World Together At Home Global Citizen Concert’ curated by Lady Gaga, ‘Rally Round the Flag’ hosted by Citi TV, the just concluded Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ‘COVID-19 Heroes Concert’ among others already done and yet-to-be-staged.
