Stevie Wonder announces music break ahead of surgery

Legendary singer/songwriter Stevie Wonder, has announced that he is taking a break from performing to undergo a kidney transplant scheduled for September. The singer made the announcement during his stage performance at London’s BST Festival.

He told the crowd gathered, “So what’s going to happen is this, I’m going to have surgery. I’m going to have a kidney transplant in September of this year. I’m all good, I’m all good. I have a donor, it’s all good. I want you to know I came here to give you my love and to thank you for your love.” Wonder will however perform three more shows before taking the music performance hiatus from shows.

The 69-year-old singer was rumored last week to be suffering from a severe, but controlled ailment by online media reports. Making use of the stage break in announcing his surgery preparation, Wonder urged loyal fans to only take note of what he has said and not rumored news, “You ain’t gotta hear no rumors about nothing. I told you what’s up. I’m good. All right?” said Wonder.

Starting his music career at a very young age, Wonder has managed to win the hearts of many music lovers and has over the years won honourary titles and awards including 29 Grammys and one special honorary award by the recording academy. He has a record of 74 Grammy nominations and still counting. His break from the music circle will greatly be missed.
