Game of Thrones star actress, Sophie Turner has signed on with Louis Vuitton to help raise awareness for their annual #makeapromise campaign, a collaboration with UNICEF.
For the past three years and still running, Louis Vuitton has sold silver locket bracelets to support UNICEF’s mission in assisting children in vulnerable situations, such as the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Records accumulated by Vogue indicate that, with UNICEF’s assistance, the Bangladesh government has been able to vaccinate 900,000 children and adults against cholera and save over 263,000 children from malnutrition.
Sophie hopes to bring on board this year, the idea of luck and inclusion of many countries and cultures, therefore informing her choice of colors for the locket. The actress opted for red and white colors, of which she explains their significance to be, “Red is considered a lucky color in China. And white coincides with my idea for having the little circular charm on the bracelet, a rabbit A. Because WHITE rabbits are considered very lucky in many the UK and rabbit foot is considered lucky in many parts of Europe, China, Africa, North and South America.”
The rabbit does not only feature on the locket for luck, but then also has a little bit of her in there, since she has the same rabbit designed as a tattoo on her arm.
Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, Michael Burke disclosed to Vogue about the campaign. “The idea of the #makeapromise campaign comes from children. When they make a promise, they mean it, and they seal it with a pinky promise. Children show us a simple way to change the world. It’s all about joining forces worldwide to raise funds and awareness for children,” he said. “We believe in the word of mouth. Our goal is to reach as many people as possible and to make a real difference.”
