In as much as big names in film and television never mind when their names are repeated in the rap lines of artists, American actress Sharon Stone is not a fan of the usual culture. The ‘Basic Instinct’ actress has sued rising rapper Chanel West Coast for using her famous Sharon Stone moniker repeatedly in her song titled ‘Sharon Stoned’.
Sharon argues in her case that, the rapper made use of her name to capitalize on her extraordinary level of popularity and fame. In the said song, Stone is given credit for her movie roles in ‘Basic Instinct’ to ‘The Disaster Artist’ and her multiple nominations and wins over the years.
Per the lyrics of the song when played, the name ‘Sharon Stone’ is repeated 33 times and the name ‘Sharon’ repeated 99 times. Aside the lyrics, Sharon is suing Chanel for the video to the song, which evokes the actress’s persona, clearly admitted by Chanel, who says she wanted to redo some classic iconic Sharon Stone movie scenes.
The actress maintains that because of the reputation she has built, she maintains strict control over how her name and likeness used. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that, Sharon is suing for unfair competition and violations of her right of publicity and is seeking an injunction barring Dudley from using her name or image and both punitive damages and disgorgement of any profits Dudley has earned as a result of the song and video.
