There will be no angels strutting the runway this year. Long time Victoria’s Secret angel Shanina Shaik has confirmed the break of the runway show.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday, Shanina revealed, “Unfortunately, the Victoria’s Secret show won’t be happening this year. It’s something am not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an Angel’.
The annual lingerie fashion show began 23 years ago, bringing on its runway A-list 90s models Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks and Adriana Lima. The newest bees taking over the runway also include Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid and Behati Prinsloo.
It’s unknown why the long-standing runway tradition of the Victoria Secrets brand is on halt, but a cue could be taken from the disappointing low ratings it recorded in viewership last year and backlashes received from both plus size and LGBTQ models, who campaigned for a boycott of the show for its lack of inclusivity.
Opposite its star-studded angels walking the runway, the show has also brought on board some of music heavy weights such as Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Shawn Mendes and Taylor Swift for stage performances whiles models take turns to showcase their wrapped lingerie.
