Queen of the tennis game, Serena Williams will wear the newest Nike collection dubbed ‘The Queen Collection’ in honor of the US open, beginning on August 27.
The new collection, which is a collaboration between the tennis queen Serena, Nike and Louis Vuitton’s artistic director, Virgil Abloh, includes a tennis dress with a tutu-like skirt in both black and white, a bag, jacket and three pairs of sneakers, ranging from $130 to $900. Speaking about the new collection and its inspiration, Virgil Abloh disclosed that with Serena as the face of the collection, all his effort was geared towards embodying her spirit and bringing something new to the tennis game. “With Serena, we have one of our generation’s most powerful, inspiring athletes as the muse. I was trying to embody her spirit and bring something compelling and fresh to tennis,” said Virgil.
He goes on to describe the collection as feminine and something which expresses Serena’s spirit with each swing of her racket..
“So the dress is feminine, but combines her aggression. It’s partially revealing. It’s asymmetrical. It has a sort of ballerina-esque silhouette to symbolism her grace. It’s not about it living on the body and expressing Serena’s spirit with each swing of the racket,” Virgil continued.
The sneakers in the collection stem from the star’s longtime relationship to the athletic brand. She’s been a Nike ambassador since 2003, and has consistently steered away from the white tennis shoes that her peers and predecessors have worn.
