Paying respect to the 50-year old hip/hop mogul Sean Diddy Combs, the Recording Academy has named him recipient of the 2020 Grammy Salute to Industry Icons awards. The trophy will be given him at the pre-Grammys party on Saturday January 25, 2020.
Diddy’s honor comes after a 25-year trailblazing career and continuous influence on the music industry and beyond.
“It’s personally so gratifying that Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs is this year’s icon. He fully deserves this wonderful recognition. From his past innovative and creative contributions right from the very inception of the hip hop revolution, to his many memorable appearances at the pre-Grammy Gala as both speaker and performer, it’s all come full circle. I couldn’t be happier for Sean as a dear friend and colleague,” said Clive Davis co-host of the pre-Grammy Gala.
Bearing testament to the mogul’s achievements, president/CEO of the Recording Academy disclosed, “For nearly three decades, Diddy has fused his boundless creativity and sharp entrepreneurial spirit to create timeless art and built brands and institutions that have shifted our global music culture.”
Billboard charts reveals that, Combs has over the years landed at 70 albums on the billboard 200 and more than 100 songs on the Hot 100, under his Bad Boy label. He has on record three Grammy awards and an empire, which features clothing, beverages, philanthropic work, political activism and film and TV assets, including a cable network Revolt, launched in 2013.
Combs joins the long roster of past recipients such as; Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss, Irving Azoff, Martin Bandler, Sir Richard Branson, Ahmet Ertegun, David Geffen, Berry Gordy, Lucian Grainge, Jay-Z and Clarence Avant.
