After buzzing $1.3 billion in world cinemas with the hit movie Black Panther, Ryan has signed a new deal with Marvel to write and direct a sequel to the movie.
According to reports, Ryan has been penned to write the script next year with an eye to start productions in either late 2019 or early 2020. Black Panther, centering on T’Challa, the King of a fictional African country ‘Wakanda’ was an outsized success both commercially and critically. The movie after its February release in cinemas grossed $700 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide. It has been tipped as an Oscar contender for the Academy Awards next keenly eyeing the Best Picture category.
Coogler is currently developing the drama Wrong Answer with his frequent collaborator and Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan. He is also executive producing LeBron James’ Space Jam Sequel and acts in the same capacity on the upcoming Creed 2. Coogler is repped by WME and Cohen & Gardner.
