When Hollywood gather for the 77th annual Golden Globes Awards next year, stand-up Comedian Ricky Gervais will shoulder hosting duties for the ceremony. A title he’s bagged four times before (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016).
Organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) in collaboration with NBC (for the live broadcast), Gervais who is best known for roasting both Hollywood A-listers and organizers in the midst of playing ringmaster disclosed of his reprised gig, “Once again, they’ve made me an offer I can’t refuse. But this is the very last time I’m doing this, which would make for a fun evening.”
Much of Hollywood stars have been a topic of discussion at the Globes when Gervais played MC in past years. The likes of Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Mel Gibson and Caitlyn Jenner have had a fair share of criticism from the Comedian in the years their take-over and controversial headlines in Hollywood clashed with Gervais Golden Globes appearance.
“There’s always a palpable electricity in the room when Rocky takes the Globes stage. His return as master of ceremonies at the Golden Globes is much anticipated. It is sure to make for an unexpected evening. We can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Paul Telegdy.
The 77th Golden Globes is slated for January 7, 2020. Nominees will be released on Monday, December 9, 2019.
