Incumbent Academy Award best actor winner, Rami Malek, will play the villain character against Mr. Bond in the next ‘James Bond’ film. The announcement came in yesterday, after the cast and production details of the film were released in a promotional video ahead of the upcoming 007 sequel.
In a recorded video sent from New York, the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ lead man disclosed inside the camera that he is going to give Mr Bond a tough time on his 25th outing. He said, “I will be making sure that Mr. Bond does not have an easy ride of it in this his 25th outing.” Malek is yet-to-be given a character name.
Whiles the upcoming feature is without a moniker, details about the expository part of the film were hinted by producer Barbara Broccoli, narrating that the next Bond feature begins with him on an off-duty vacation in Jamaica before his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond unto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
Aside Malek and Daniel Craig (James Bond), the other cast of the film includes returning actors; Lea Seydoux (Dr. Madeleine Swann), Jeffery Wright (Felix Leither), Ben Whishaw (Q), Rory Kinnear (Tanner), Naomi Harris (Moneypenny) and Ralph Fiennes (M). Newcomers include Lashana Lynch, David Dencik, Ana De Armas and Dali Benssalah. Locations for production include London, Italy, Jamaica and Norway.
Disclosing on the consistency of relevance with the ‘James Bond’ film since its inception, producer Michael G. Wilson, attributed it to the updates in story line and plot whiles staying true to the secret agent. “We do update the stories and we do update the plots, but we stay true to the character,” he said.
The Bond sequel will be directed by Cari Joji Fukunga, following the original director Danny Boyle’s bow from the film due to creative differences. Scripts will be inked by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Scott Z. Burns and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It hits cinemas on April 8, 2020.
