One-year-old power couple Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas has gone into contract with Amazon Studios to produce an unscripted reality show, birthed around their famous traditional pre-wedding ceremony Sangeet.
According to the order of Indian wedding, the Sangeet precedes the actual nuptials, bringing together families of the betrothed for a performance-filled evening of song and dance. This engagement was witnessed during last year’s weeks-long celebration of the Jonas couple’s wedding in India.
“We re-watched the video of our Sangeet last week on our first anniversary, and the togetherness of our family and friends during this event still sparks the same warmth and excitement that it did just over a year ago at our wedding. The Sangeet is a centuries old Indian wedding tradition, that not only celebrates the union of two people, but also signifies the introduction and bonding of two families coming together in a marriage,” Chopra disclosed upon the announcement on Wednesday.
2020 has been picked for production and will give autonomous power for participants to carry the creative vision attached to their own filmed ceremony. Amazon together with Dan Cutforth and Jane Liptsitz of Alfred Street Industries will serve as series producers alongside Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures and Jonas’ Image 32. The Jonas’ will executive produce alongside Dan Volpe, Anjula Acharia, Phil Mcintyre, Nina Anand Aujla, Cutforth and Lipstiz.
Jennifer Salke, Amazon Studios head lauded of the developing series, “The Sangeet is such a beautiful tradition and we’re excited to partner with Priyanka and Nick to honor it through this series and find couples from all different backgrounds that are excited to bring their families together through the universal language of song and dance.”
Meanwhile, casting is already underway to recruit participants. The show for now is untitled.
