Paula Patton has secured adaptation rights over Sherry Jones’ biographical novel ‘Josephine Baker’s Last Dance’, authored around the late French entertainer Josephine Baker. The ‘Jumping the Broom’ actress will star in and produce the film.
The late Baker’s life history is recorded from the time of World War II, where she was an undercover agent for the French resistance, gathering and finding information from Axis Officials. She later became a civil rights activist and the only woman to stand alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and speak at the 1963 March on Washington. Baker’s celebrity status, life and work have been a major source of influence on global dominated celebrities such as Beyoncé and Angelina Jolie.
The biographical novel published by Simon & Schuster imprint Gallery in 2018 was heavily praised for capturing a life journey of heartbreak and empowerment. “Josephine Baker had an incredible life and was a remarkable woman. It’s been a childhood dream of mine to play such an inspirational person and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to tell her story,” Patton disclosed on Monday.
Patton has over the years starred in Hollywood films such as ‘The Do-Over’, ‘Warcraft’, ‘Mission Impossible’, ‘Ghost Protocol’ and many others. She is repped by ICM Partners, Management Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
A writer for the film is still in search.
