The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has slated February 27, 2022 as key date for the 94th Oscars ceremony.
Scheduling the 94th and 93rd (previously announced to take place on Feb.28) Oscars ceremony for the last Sunday in February is an effort of the Academy to prevent future clashes with national holidays and national recognized events of equal importance. “Timing of the 2022 Olympics, the Super Bowl and national holidays will keep the 2021 and 2022 dates on the last Sunday in February,” said the Academy in a statement. Future dates for the Oscars will be evaluated from time-to-time to make room for the long Oscars night.
Next year’s ceremony will however air on the Academy’s earliest date ever, Feb.9, 2020. A timetable leading to the Oscars next year has also been released ahead of time. The preferred dates include;
- Governors Awards: October 27, 2019
- Preliminary Voting begins: December 6, 2019
- Preliminary Voting Ends: December 10, 2019
- Nomination Voting Begins: January 2, 2020
- Nomination Voting Ends: January 7, 2020
- Oscars Nomination Announcement: January 13, 2020
- Oscars Nomination Luncheon: January 27,2020
- Finals Voting Begins: January 30,2020
- Finals Voting Ends: February 4,2020
- 92nd Oscars; February 9, 2020
The Oscars this year sparked huge controversies preceding its airing date, leaving the night without a host, but performed beyond the expectation of many. The show is likely to go without a host next year as ABC Entertainment boss Karey Burke, told reporters, “I believe we will not mess with that format to the best of our ability.”
