Oscars 2020: Everything you need to know!

The 2020 award season train ends on Sunday, February 9 at the Academy Awards. Regarded by industry players, critics and film fanatics as the biggest night in film, the best of Hollywood filmmakers and stars will gather to honor the very best with a golden statute, Oscar.

Ahead of the start of the longest night in Hollywood, let’s orient ourselves in detail as to what to expect at the upcoming 2020 Academy Awards

Who is Hosting?

Just like last year, the Oscars will for the second time in year go without a host. The last Oscars host was Jimmy Kimmel, who took over the stage for 2 years in row (2017 and 2018).

Where is the Oscars taking place?

The 2020 Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theaters, Los Angeles. It has been the home of the Oscars since 2002. In that year, the Oscars recorded the first no host show since 1989.

Who are the Nominees?

Nominees list for the 2020 Oscars was released on Monday January 13 by Issa Rae and John Cho. At the end of the announcement, Joaquin Phoenix’s led film ‘Joker’ netted the highest number of nominations with 11 mentions including best picture and best actor for Joaquin. Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’, Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ and Sam Mendes’ ‘1917’ followed closely with 10 nominations apiece. Scarlett Johansson for the first time in her acting career scored an Oscar nomination in two different categories for best actress in a lead role ‘Marriage Story’ and best supporting actress ‘Jojo Rabbit’.

Who are presenting?

Going by Oscar tradition, all four winners in last year’s acting categories are coming back as award presenters this year. Joining Olivia Colman, Regina King, Rami Malek and Mahershala Ali on the stage are; Jane Fonda, Brie Larson, Spike Lee, Timothee Chalamet, Keanu Reeves, Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman, Gal Gadot, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, James Corden, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mindy Kaling and many more. The star-studded lineup of forty presenters is a format of saving the no-host show from flopping.

Who are performing?

In between award giveaways on the night, Billie Eilish and Janelle Monae will join the five original score nominees to perform in separate segments of the ceremony. No clue as to what songs Eilish and Monae will be performing, but the performing nominees will perform the song tracks of the films that got them nominated. Randy Newman will perform ‘I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away’ from the movie ‘Toy Story 4’, Cynthia Erivo will sing ‘Stand Up’ from ‘Harriet’, Elton John will perform ‘(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again from ‘Rocketman’, Chrissy Metz will sing ‘I’m Standing with You’ from ‘Breakthrough’ and Idina Menzel and AURORA will perform ‘Into The Unknown’ from ‘Frozen II’.

How to watch the Oscars from home?

ABC will televise the ceremony live from the Dolby Theater at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Live on the Red Carpet will air at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

Who is walking the Oscars red carpet?

The lineup of Oscar presenters and nominees already speaks volume as to how glamorous the red carpet is going to be on Sunday, but as style lovers and predictors of who slays best, we expect Charlize Theron to maintain her throne as every year’s show stopper on the Oscars red carpet. She goes undefeated!
