Award winning Actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has been invited to join the 2018 Academy of motion picture Arts and Sciences members. The Academy on Monday released the names of invitees in this year’s voting membership. The Nollywood joins the likes of Oscar winning actresses and nominees such Nicole Kidman, Timotee Chalamet, Reese Wintherspoon and more to form the 132 actors branch.
Her invite comes as a result of her remarkable performance in the 2010 Drama movie, Private Storm and the 2012 hit movie, Last Flight to Abuja. Omotola shared her excitement over her invite in an Instagram post with the caption “It’s with great joy and sense of responsibility that I announce that I have been invited to b e a Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “THE OSCARS”. I am truly elated. #Oscars #Votingmember #Godisdoingit”.
The general requirement for the invite into the Academy membership is that a candidate must have demonstrated exceptional achievement in the field of theatrical motion pictures, although each branch has its own specific requirement s. Actors for example, must have a millennium of three theatrical features under their belt.
The Nollywood actress has starred in over 200 movies, since her acting debut in the 1995 movie, Venom of Justice. In 2013, she was honored in Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people in the world alongside, Michelle Obama, Beyoncé and Kate Middleton.
Omotola becomes the first Nollywood actress to have received an invite into the Academy voting membership. She has over the years starred in movies alongside top Nollywood and Ghallywood actresses such, Genevieve Nnaji, Nadia Buari, Ramsey Noah, Stephanie Linus, John Dumelo etc. Her renowned achievements on and off the screens has made her one of Africa’s best asserts in film, philanthropic duties and entrepreneurship.
