At the mention of the fashion brand named Balmain, the firing looks of Beyoncé’s stage performances comes to mind (that’s because Balmain is behind it), and of course Kim Kardashian’s 2016 Met Gala silver Balmain gown inspired by the theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age of Technology.
Close to nine years, since taking over the creative director’s spot at the French based fashion house, Rousteing has proven beyond measure that the world is his runway and he is taking the Balmain fever with him for the win. The fashion community cannot name its top ten brands without Balmain making the cut, a result of Rousteing’s influence of serving A-list stars with the best ensembles on the red carpets.
Parading his first ever haute couture collection, after the label took a 16 years hiatus from couture display, Rousteing sought to bridge the gap between the past Balmain and the present, which he helms over. Talking of the everyday sexy and glamorous presentations of the house, the couture ensembles went contrary, by presenting statement looks that engulfed everything Mr. Balmain stood for. Rousteing explained of the collection, “Of course, the house is known for being edgy and sexy and glamorous. Here it’s all about bringing back Balmain to the elegance of la France. Everything you see will give the sense that it’s taken from the ideas of Mr. Balmain.”
From models painted in alien-like white makeup and hair paint, all dripped in pearls to the round ball-shaped bags emblazoned with the new ‘B’ logo. The couture was in three words ‘a big win’ for Rousteing and his team, as a guest on the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture’s spring 2019 schedule.
