TV3 news anchor, Natalie Fort has served seven celebrity websites namely; GhanaCelebrities, YenGhana, GhanaWeb, GHPage, GhanaSlayers, NetbuzzAfrica and Peace FM Online with a court order from the Accra High Court, accusing them of defamation.
In the court suit, Natalie is asking the court house to restrain the online portals from further publishing the defamatory words used in their articles. The matter prior to the court suit is as a result of a published article from GhanaCelebrities on July 15, 2019, which indicated that Natalie is pregnant for four married men including an NPP Politician. The content of the article became news item-worthy for other publications, leading to the widespread of the false article.
It details further with charges of aggravated and exemplary damages for libel, and an instruction ordering the removal or deletion of the defamatory content, and any other relief as the justice of the case may seem fit.
At the time where the false story was making buzzing headlines across the country, Natalie issued an official statement debunking any truth related to the articles and stating clearly the reasons why she has taken a break from television. 72 hours after the publication on GhanaSlayers.com and 42 hours after Fort’s official response to the claims, GhanaSlayers reached out to her apologizing and asked for an exemption in case any legal action takes place in the future. They later published an article of apology admitting that the publication has tainted the news anchor’s image.
All seven online sites stated in the charge have not issued an official statement yet after the news broke out to the public hearing.
