For close to centuries, the global beauty industry has sidelined and neglected the beauty needs of POC, especially black women often forcing them to either opt for products that weren’t geared towards them or create their own with meagre resources.
Despite the bleak situation, Black people have constantly risen to the occasion by empowering one another in spaces including the beauty industry through sheer grit, discipline, talent and perseverance.
In order to change the narrative and constantly create spaces for black talent to excel, UK-Based Community empowerment organization, My Runway Group is extremely excited to announce a special make up master class with multiple award-winning makeup artist and the C.E.O of CVL Beauty, Ms. Valerie Lawson!
Valerie wears several hats as a makeup artist, educator and entrepreneur, pushing the boundaries of beauty and the beauty landscape in Africa and beyond who has worked on the likes of H.E. Erna Solberg, Mrs. Reeta Roy, Maria Borges, H.E. Mrs. Samira Bawumia, Ms. Bozoma St. John and Mrs. Nicole Ari Parker.
Previously appointed the Ghanaian artistic director for American multinational cosmetics company and the founder of her namesake brand, CVL Beauty; a brand focused on beauty education through annual master and private classes and the creation of beauty tools out of the dire need of artists to enhance efficiency and creativity.
Speaking on the exciting partnerships she’s bagged this year including a new role as the Beauty director of Curated African Concept Store, The Lotte, Lawson acknowledged the growth of the beauty industry and outlined plans to collaborate with other beauty brands to bring visibility to the continent.
“I personally think that it is a great time to be a Creative because the tables have flipped when it comes to the arts taking over the world, especially for Africans,” Valerie said.
“I’m excited about it because one it’s a new concept it’s never been done before and then two I’m partnering with different brands and I believe in the power of collaboration.”
The world-renowned beauty entrepreneur is hosting a once in a lifetime masterclass at M•A•C cosmetics Flagship Store on Carnaby Street, London, produced by My Runway Group in partnership with M•A•C Cosmetics UK.
