I joined the Glitz family in 2017 excited about getting the opportunity to write for a living. Coming from a creative background where I write fictional stories and inspirational articles on my Joseyphina’s World blog, I was up for the challenge of writing on real people and learning to expand my scope in the craft.
When I joined Glitz in March, the editorial team was halfway with putting together the content for issue 17 (Women of Power with Madam Frema Osei-Opare, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Hon. Ursurla Owusu-Ekuful and the then Hon. Catherine Afeku). I transcribed some of the interviews as well as wrote and proofread some other contents in the issue.
Four years and twelve issues later, I’ve had the opportunity to engage with several personalities stemming from corporate, political, entrepreneurial, medical, fashion, celebrity and creative circles amongst others and share their stories with our readers.
Under the able leadership of my Editor-in-Chief, Claudia Lumor, I have been challenged to write better and produce much deeper, well-thought-out content be it for the magazine, our social media platforms or for clients.
Producing each issue presented its own challenges as well as its highlights. As every issue is themed, it meant that the content for the regular columns must be tailored to fit; which implied searching for suitable persons to contribute to the magazine. This has helped me to discover lots of diligent, talented people from diverse backgrounds.
Working first as an Editorial Assistant then as Supervising Editor who has to reach out to creatives and other contributing writers and follow up till the content is received, the role has taught me how to be patient about late submissions, persistent in follow-up and maintain a cordial relationship with people of different personalities and status.
One thing I realised about working in this role is the need to have a servant heart and work wholeheartedly. To be successful at the end of the day calls for the need to put aside your personal pride and get the job done.
Each issue presents a renewed opportunity to learn something new, work with different people and grow to be a better editor and person in general. It has been a great experience so far and I can’t wait for the future holds.
