Fashion giant, Miuccia Prada will receive the 2018 Outstanding Achievement award at the 2018 Fashion Awards, which is in partnership with Swarovski, slated for December 10 in Albert Hall, London.
The fashion mogul joins the likes of Donatella Versace, Ralph Lauren, Karl Lagerfeld and Manolo Blahnik CBE, past recipients of the honoree title. Mrs Prada, since her maiden sit-down in the fashion community in 1978 (taking over from her family owned luxury goods manufacture, Prada) has been an ultimate source of style inspiration to individuals from all walks of the world. In March 2013, Mrs Prada was named the fifty best-dressed over 50 by the Guardian.
She designed her first handbag in 1985 and by 1989 designed and introduced her first women’s wear collection. She stepped into the hall of menswear design 1995 and from that time till date, has defied the odds of what is ugly and what is good. Her choice of style leads to nothing but trend setting, not common to the everyday cliché kind of style.
Speaking of her recognition at the upcoming Fashion Awards, Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful talked of Mrs Prada as someone of inspiration and copied designer of her generation, he said, “Mrs Prada is the most revered, most inspirational and probably the most copied designer of her generation. She’s bold and she’s not scared to break rules or go into new territory. She has made us look at body shape differently. She has made us look at what is ugly and what is beautiful. She has trained people’s eyes to a new way of dressing, one that is not based on the classic idea of the female form. She’s a genius!”
