The search for Ghana’s next sweetheart to represent the nation on the international stage of Miss Universe will begin soon with the hashtag ‘Boss Queen’, the organization announced today.
Explained by the franchise itself, Boss Queen is a modern-day translation of confidently beautiful. The goal is to incite in young girls the spirit of self-trust and the exceptional ability to believe in themselves to take on the universe as future leaders.
To fuel the thirst of loyal followers of the beauty pageant ahead of its big comeback, director of the contest Menaye Donkor, who also won the same pageant in 2004 has assembled herself together with the last two former queens Ruth Quashie (2017) and Akpene Diata Hoggar (2018) as front runners of the campaign shoot. A strategy, which is understandable since it can only take the real queens of the game to draw all attention back to the pageant after the year break following last year’s no show.
Since the start of the pageant in 1991, the highest position Ghana has placed at the international level was in 1999, when Akuba Cudjoe made it to the top 10. Next to Akuba is Ruth, who gave Ghana a slot in the top 16 finalists’ lineup.
With the all black woman power look from hair to the suit opted by the three queens for the campaign shoot sends the 2020 message is heard loud and clear: a boss queen to the rescue.
