Owning the status quo as the first black woman to win an Academy Award in costume design 2019 for ‘Black Panther’, Ruth E. Carter has inked an exhibition collaboration deal with MinaLima Los Angeles, the creative studio behind the onscreen props and graphics of ‘Harry Potter’.
The joint effort between the two brands will feature a collection of Carter’s personal sketches and superhero costumes to go on display in a touring exhibition put together by MinaLima. The intention behind the exhibition is to celebrate Carter’s costume design career that has been well received by Hollywood for decades.
Speaking of the stewing partnership, Carter disclosed in a statement, “Movies spark the imagination in kids and adults around the world, and it’s been a dream of mine to bring my life’s work to them. Through this exhibition, they will experience costume design and filmmaking in many creative and memorable ways. I am excited to be working with the team at MinaLima Los Angeles as they bring their experience to realizing this exhibition. I’ve been bringing characters to life for over 30 years. There are so many costumes and stories to tell. I look forward to sharing my personal and career journey with students, teachers, families and fellow artists, who are not only interested in costume design, film-making and production techniques, but who are also looking to be inspired.”
The 30-year career of Carter is majorly fluxed with Hollywood costume works from the set of, ‘Do the Right Thing’, ‘Selma’, ‘Malcom X’ and the comeback comedy centered film of Eddie Murphy’s ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ amongst others.
Aside the seen works of MinaLima in ‘Harry Potter’, the creative house is also known for the creation of Marauder’s Map and Hogwarts Letters. It also has a record on the film and series, ‘Chamber of Secrets’, ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and ‘The Imitation Game’.
“Over the last year, we have been working with Ruth to create an exhibition that we hope will be engaging and, above all, true to the spirit of her work,” said Eddie Newquist, a partner of MinaLima Los Angeles, in a statement.
“Ruth is a premier filmmaking talent and vibrant personality, and our firm is excited that this exhibition will allow guests the opportunity to experience her amazing craftsmanship,” added firm partner Robin Stapley.
Starting date together with location and price for the exhibition are yet-to-be-announced.
