Destiny’s Child singer, Michelle Williams has confirmed she is undergoing treatment at a mental facility to aid her depression. According to TMZ, the star is been treated at a facility outside Los Angeles.
The 37-year-old artist made this revelation on Tuesday in an Instagram post with the caption that affirmed her undergoing treatment.
“For years I have dedicated myself to increase awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your well-being. I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands of around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals. Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for betterment of those in need”.
In as much as many high profile personalities in showbiz hide their mental struggles with health issues from the public, Michelle however has been loud about her struggles with depression in past years. In October last year, the artist shared on The Talk about reflecting on the feelings of sadness she felt at the peak of her career. At the time, the singer questioned how she could be in “one of the top-selling female groups of all time, suffering with depression”.
Tina Knowles commended the entertainer for her bravery in a comment on William’s post.
“Michelle My Belle, I’m so proud of you! You have given unselfishly of your time and support to so many and I know that you will be the best example of self-care, which we all need. Keep being a warrior and an advocate for you. I love and support you with all my being,” said Beyoncé’s mom.
In another comment by Empire star actor Jussie Smollett, he also applauded the singer for her sincerity. “I love you. Always have and always will. Honesty saves lives. Believe that. Keep soaring Queen.? ❤?” dotted Smollett.
Today, Williams encourages others to take charge of their mental health, saying in her statement, “If you change your mind, you can change your life ❤”.
Michelle rose to fame in the 2000s as a member of R&B girl group Destiny’s Child together with Beyoncé and Kelly Rolland; one of the best-selling female groups of all time. She has earned several awards and accolades including a Grammy Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as part of Destiny’s Child; a solo MOBO Award and Stellar Award.
