It’s no news that the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle contributed partially with articles and cover girl selection for the September issue of British Cover. The royal princess has revealed via the magazine pages that she is coming up with a work wear clothing line, which will in turn be of essential benefit to registered women under Smart Works.
The collection is a collaborative effort between the Duchess and her distinguished friends in the fashion fraternity namely, Marks & Spencer, Jigsaw, John Lewis and Meisha Nonoo. Meghan explained about cause of the collection creation, “When you walk into a Smart Works space you’re met with racks of clothing and an array of bags and shoes. Sometimes, however, it can be a potpourri of mismatched sizes and colours, not always the right stylistic choices or range of sizes.”
In a way of changing the clothing fate of these underprivileged women, a single purchase of an item from the collection will be dashed out in a replica form to another woman, who can’t afford to buy. Meghan revealed, “Taking the idea further, many of the brands agreed to use the one-for-one model for each item purchased by a customer, one is donated to the charity. Not only does this allow us to be a part of each other’s story, it reminds us we are in it together.”
Smart Works doubles as part of Meghan’s royal duties. The organisation headed by Kate Stephens, helps women from disadvantaged backgrounds get interview-ready by providing them with a new outfit and coaching from a team of volunteer mentors.
The collection will be launched later this year.
