Aside being the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle is of no doubt a fashion icon. The accolade, which has been another side of her resume has officially been conferred on the royal.
For the 2019 Year in Fashion Report, presented by Lyst, the Duchess has been crowned most powerful dresser of the year. The annual report puts together queries, page views and sales metrics across six million fashion products from over 12,000 online stores, alongside the global media coverage and social media mentions generated by the year’s biggest brands and trends.
The report mentions that Markle’s 2019 opted fashion ensembles sparked on average a total of 216 percent increase in searches for similar pieces.
The big recognition came the Duchess way, thanks to her selected costumes during her Royal Tour in South Africa with the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry. The Duchess became the favorite of many fashion addicts after she donned herself in a Club Monaco dress to meet Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The dress sold out in less than 24 hours, following a 570 percent addition in internet searches.
Paying more attention to her outfits, Meghan pulled off a midi skirt designed by American brand J. Crew for a private breakfast she hosted to discuss gender-based violence in the country. Statistics showed that the brand’s search on the internet hiked up to a 102 percent, since its establishment 1947. Throughout Meghan’s tour in Africa, the Duchess wore five different shirt dresses causing 45% raise in internet search for her favorite style shirt dresses.
The list of most powerful dresser of the year also include ‘Call Me by Your Name’ actor Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Billie Eilish and Cardi B rounding up the top 5 spots. Meanwhile, the most searched brand of the year title was reclaimed by Off-White, while Bottega Veneta emerged as the breakout brand for 2019.
