Apple TV Plus has a new star on the block, Mahershala Ali. The two-time Oscar winner will star in and produce ‘Swan Song’, an original drama film set to stream on the Apple platform.
‘Swan Song’ will be produced by Apple and Anonymous Content, with a script provision from Academy Award winner Benjamin Cleary. The film is set in the near future and explores how far someone will go, and how much they will sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people they love.
“Benjamin’s script for ‘Swan Song’ immediately connected with us,” said Matt Dentler, Apple’s head of feature development and acquisitions. “We cannot wait to bring Benjamin’s vision together with Mahershala’s undeniable talent to deliver this powerfully layered story to audiences around the world.”
“I’ve been developing ‘Swan Song’ for a while and when I sat down with Apple it was immediately clear they completely understood my vision. Once Mahershala agreed to join us, I knew we had something really special. To be making this movie with Mahershala and Anonymous at Apple is an absolute dream,” said Cleary.
Attached to the production as producers for Anonymous are Adam Shulman and Jacob Perlin. Cleary is said to direct the developing project, which begins its action take in spring this year. Apple announces that ‘Swan Song’ will receive a theatrical release aside the platform streaming for subscribers.
In the years active for Ali (2001- present), the actor has become an Award season title man, sweeping the best supporting actor category off from the Golden Globes to the Oscars in the years 2017 and 2019. His starred-in films have also gone ahead to win best picture for Moonlight and Green Book at the Academy Awards (2017 and 2019 respectively).
