With two Oscars and a Golden Globes under his belt, Mahershala Ali has gracefully become the career doppelganger of Denzel Washington in Hollywood. The actor who also doubles as a rapper in New York is adding another superhero character to his file after voicing Prowler in the animated movie ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ last year. Mahershala will star as the next Blade in the Marvel franchise superhero film reboot ‘Blade’.
Blade is a character in the Marvel Universes who is half-human, half-vampire and hunts down the undead to protect the living. The previous Blade character has been played by Wesley Snipes, who starred in the original version in 1998 and reprised his role in the sequels produced in 2002 (Blade II) and 2004 (Blade: Trinity).
The ‘Blade’ debut in the Marvel world will however not be the first time Mahershala is joining forces with the cinematic universe. Ali is best known in the space for spearheading the villainous role of Cornell Strokes in ‘Luke Cage’ which now streams on Netflix for a continuity.
Production date for shooting as well as release date plus other characters to join Mahershala are yet to be announced.
