For an Oscar winner and red carpet turner who deems fashion as a perfect space for philanthropy, Lupita Nyong’o has joined Michael Kors ‘Watch Hunger Stop’ campaign, solely set on eradicating hunger from the faces of students across the world.
In celebration of the campaign’s seventh year since inception, Kors has collaborated once again with United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to dish out t-shirts at a price of £33 and a tote bag priced £48 all featured with ‘Love’ scripted on the front. One hundred percent of the financial proceeds to be made from the fashion items will be donated to the WFP. Meanwhile, Vogue reports that Kors pledges an additional 100 meals for every picture shared online by a customer using the hashtag #watchhungerstop.
Joining the movement for the very first time, Nyong’o hopes that her voice will lure others in finding solutions to the problem at stake. “Hunger is a defining issue for our world and climate change is worsening the problem. We must work to change this dynamic. My hope is that by adding my voice to the fight, I will help be a part of the solution and encourage others to take action as well,” said Lupita.
Working under the theme ‘Food is Love’ this year, Kors educates, “To help feed a child is to care for them and support them as they make their way in the world. Since its inception, the Watch Hunger Stop campaign has helped WFP deliver more than 18 million meals to children.”
“School meals are a smart way to fight hunger because they link education to nutrition. Children get multiple benefits as do their families with each school meal saving them money,” Lupita added to theme’s significance.
