Louis Tomlinson is going on a BBC Breakfast Show boycott, after the singer was quizzed in a series of questions about how he handled the death situation of his late mother and sister.
Tomlinson, who was on the show early Monday morning to promote his first solo album ‘Walls’ with show hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin openly disclosed to Walker he is uncomfortable with the questions being asked and instead focus should be directed to the particular reason why he is there, “I’ve just released my first album, that’s what we’re here for.”
Moving away from the grief talk, Walker asked another question relating to a possible reunion of the One Direction all boys group that had a fall-out in 2016. Tomlinson was however not happy with the follow-up question, responding to it, “You’ve ticked them all off — trauma, Zayn and we’re finally on this one,” before conceding and saying: “It’s inevitable. I don’t know when. We’d be stupid not to get back together.”
Soon after the show ended its live coverage, Tomlinson took to Twitter to announce his boycott, “Defo won’t be going on there again Haha! Love to all my fans for always having my back.”
The tweet got noticed by Walker, and immediately issued an apology to the singer and in the course asked the reason for the above tweet, “Sorry you feel like that. It was nice to speak to you on #BBCBreakfast this morning. Can I ask what you are upset about?”
Tomlinson responded, “I was upset that you continued to ask me about my grief. It goes without saying how hard it is to lose both people so close to me. The least I ask is that you respect my decision of not wanting to be asked in interviews about something so painful [sic].”
He added, “I’m lucky enough to have a creative outlet for me to talk about grief this doesn’t however give you the right to talk about it for gossip purposes.”
Walker replied, “Hi Louis. We were asking you about the song on your new album about your mum.
“We know it’s painful which is why we didn’t dwell on it. No intention to upset you or be ‘gossipy’ about it at all. That’s not our style on #BBCBreakfast.”
A spokesperson of the show told CNN it was a motive to talk about the inspirations behind the album and as such did not see anything wrong with the questions that have led to the entire scandal, “We wanted to cover all aspects of Louis’ life that have influenced his new album and feel the questioning was fair.”
Tomlinson lost his mum to a Leukemia disease in 2016. Last year March, he lost his 18-year-old sister to Félicité to an accidental drug overdose.
