All campaigns for a favorite television show to secure an Emmy nomination has ceased. Television Academy, organizers of the annual Emmy awards, has released the full list of 2019 nominees hosted by D’Arcy Carden and Ken Jeong.
HBO leads the ladder with 137 total nominations for their produced television shows with ‘Game of Thrones’ nabbing a record-setting of 32 nominations. Netflix follows second with 117 nominations in all.
The lead actress in a drama category is heavily competed for by Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jodie Corner (Killing Eve), Viola Davis (How to Get Away With Murder), Laura Linney (Ozark), Mandy Moore (This Is Us), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) and Robin Wright (House of Cards). Running and ended shows namely; ‘Better Call Saul’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Killing Eve’, ‘Ozark’, ‘Pose’, ‘Succession’ and ‘This Is Us’ are all in the race for outstanding drama series win.
Beyoncé’s Netflix live concert film ‘Homecoming’ features keenly with 6 nominations in total including Outstanding Variety Special (prerecorded) and outstanding music direction.
This year’s nomination list did not include some notable and predicted names for the Emmy race including HBO’s ‘Big Little Lies’, currently showing season 2, Hulu’s ‘Handmaid’s Tale’, which beat ‘Game of Thrones’ in 2017 to win best drama series and ‘Stranger Things’.
The ceremony is slated to take place on Sunday September 22, inside the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles. Preceding the main show is the Creative Arts Emmys, which will take place on Saturday, Sept.14, at the same location as the 71st Emmys.
