Grammy winner Lady Gaga, pop sensation Harry Styles and queen of tennis Serena Williams have been named by Metropolitan Museum of Art, organizers of the annual world leading fashion ball, MET Gala as co-chairs for the 2019 MET. They will helm over the affairs of the night alongside long-running co-chair Anna Wintour.
The trio aside their remarkable career achievements, come out bearing individual styles of sophistication in the contemporary world of fashion. Gaga is of no doubt, the bearer of iconic and beyond the usual costumes on and off stage with reference to her 2010 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet dress made of slabs of meat. Harry Styles on the other hand, is popular with his genderless approach to fashion, mostly spotted in bold and floral suits on stage and a pair of skinny jeans and well fitted shirt for the casual errands. Williams’ subject of style in the tennis community can be argued as being disruptive, ultra-feminine style on the court-tutus, bodysuits, and loads of color, which can be said as a camp-ish reaction to the stiff, monochromatic, and traditionally conservative style in the world of tennis.
The theme for the event next year is titled ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’, which was inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on Camp’. As defined by the Museum, ‘Camp encompasses everything and anything that is considered by most to be naturally humorous, ridiculous, or profane in our collective culture. In fashion, it means bold, ironic, and more often than not, irreverent.’
The gala will take place on May 6, 2019, kicking off the opening of the exhibit, which will run from May 9 to Sept. 8. according to Vogue. The show will feature 175 pieces from men’s and women’s wear to sculpture, paintings and drawings. Presented designers will include Gucci, Prada, Balenciaga and Moschino.
