CFDA’s 2018 fashion icon Kim Kardashian West, has won a lawsuit case leveled against fast fashion brand ‘Missguided USA’.
Kim, who is known for wearing top designer house ensembles including her husband Kanye West’s ‘Yeezy’ collections slapped the brand in the face with a lawsuit for continuously using her likeness in selling clothes she wears by top designers at lower cost without her permission. ‘Missguided USA’ was ordered by the court to pay the reality star a sum of $2.7 million, plus a $60,000 in legal fees for her troubles. It has also been banned from using her trademarks in connection with the sale, marketing or distribution of its products in the near future.
Noticing the negative effects fast-fashion brand companies cause to the sale and uniqueness of designer clothes on the market as well as her personal brand, Kim shared a tweet in February this year expressing her disappointment in their deeds, “It’s devastating to see these fashion companies rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers who have put their all into their own original ideas,” the aspiring lawyer wrote.
However, Missguided USA has never shied away from making their moves known to the public, despite Kim’s social media disappointment tweet. The brand cautioned Kim in a deleted Instagram post which had a model equally dressed in a gold Yeezy dress designed by husband Kanye. The post captioned, “The devil works hard but Missguided works harder. @kimkardashian you’ve only got a few days before this drops online.”
