Kim Kardashian West advocates for released prisoners at White House

Kim Kardashian West has returned to the White House advocating more for prisoners and ways to make their lives better when released. The famous reality star took to Twitter yesterday, announcing her visit to the White House, “I’m heading to the White House to speak at the second chance hiring and reentry event.”

Kim, who lobbied for the release of Alice Marie Johnson, sentenced to life imprisonment since 1996, has this time around partnered with Lyft to provide transportation services to help former prisoners when going for job interviews, work and other events. “Proud to partner on this initiative with @Lyft, a company with a history of taking bold action to do what’s right for our community. Thank you for providing ride share credits to formally incarcerated people when they come home,” wrote Kim on twitter.

At the White House, Kim took to the podium speaking on how the community can be safe for everyone, both former convicts and non-former convicts as well. She said, “Everyone wants the community to be safe, and the more opportunity we have and that they have and the support that we help give them, the safer everyone will be.”

President Trump, present at the event pronounced himself a fan of Kim’s advocacy responding in a trump style of acceptance, “I guess she’s pretty popular.”

Kim Kardashian West, announced in her May Vogue cover issue that she is studying law and the interesting aspect of it that she enjoys most is criminal law. Due to her influence at the White House, about 17 inmates have been released from prison over the last 90 days, Complex reports. THR, also indicates that 1,000 federal inmates have had their sentences reduced since the passage of the First Step Act in December last year after Kim’s White House visit.
