The vogue Force of Fashion Conference kickstarted yesterday with some popular personalities in Hollywood trooping in guests for series of panel discussions. The discussion involved a selection of theme topics to be discussed by the panel and little dig into their professional careers (How it started for them and the difficulty that comes with the job).
On the panel made up of four supermodels Gigi Hadid, Ashley Graham, Paloma Elsesser and Kendall Jenner, the four youngsters took a dip inside the fashion and modelling industry and how different things are now from before the Naomi Campbell and Imam days of modelling.
On the topic of finding privacy amidst the many cameras spotting them on New York and LA streets every time they step out, Kendall shared that, her despite her family’s exposure with the public domain, she still finds a huge deal in keeping things private.
“I feel like I live a very public life. My family has a TV show and we’re all in this position. For me, it’s always been a huge thing to keep that private aspect of my life. I almost feel power in having that, and I think there’s something really beautiful to be said about that,” said Kendall. “I’ve strived for that almost my whole career, but I’ve realized recently that having so much privacy leaves room for people to create a narrative for you, and for people to assume something of you that could be completely untrue. Recently I feel like I’ve been working on opening myself a bit. I am keeping things private that I want to keep private, and that I think are sacred or persona.”
Kendall also shared the benefits of living a high school girl life in her teenage age before hitting the runways at age 18, “I got to live as much of a normal life as I could. I went to school and I had all my friends and I grew. I think that mentally and physically, I was in such a better place when I was 18 to do this. Even the past two years, I’ve grown so much in myself, to be able to know what I want and when to be able to say yes or no,” said Kendall.
As one of Hollywood’s most demanded young actresses of all time, Zendaya, seated next to Vogue’s Chloe Malle talked about fighting for representation in Hollywood, and here is what she had to say, “Obviously, representation and inclusivity are always something that I want to see. There’s always work to be done. Sometimes there’s not space given to you-you have to create it. There can’t only be one of us, and sometimes you have to open the door and jam it open, so that others can come ion too. If there’s not a seat there, go create your own table! The most important thing I can say to my fellow young people is to continue being outspoken. We are going to be the future leaders of the world, and it’s up to us to make the change that we want to see.”
