‘Empire’ will end its home run this year with a scrapped off Jussie Smollett.
Fox Entertainment CEO, Charlie Collier announced, “As much as anything in cases like this, and they’re all so unique, you try to gather all the information. You try to make a good decision at the time. There’s no plans for Jussie to return to Empire”.
Jussie is faced with an ‘Empire’ sideline after he made headlines in Hollywood earlier this year with a fake homophobic attack in the streets. Initially, the studio and the series creator Lee Daniels, extended the actors contract for the final season, but upon further investigations and conversations with the right people, the contract had to be terminated within a period of 4months.
“Just time and information and conversation with all the right people. A lot of television depends on when the writers’ room is back and all that. We worked with 20th very closely to just make sure we gathered every piece of information we could, did the right thing, and then put the show back together,” Collier disclosed.
Jussie however, still maintains his innocence of the charges against him and recently asked a judge to dismiss the $130,000 lawsuit filed by the City of Chicago. ‘Empire’ sixth and final season will premiere on September 24 at 9.p.m. ET on Fox.
