Jordan Peele is continuing his partnership with Universal Pictures, as the Oscar winner together with his Monkeypaw Productions banner has inked a five-year contract deal with the Universal house.
Under the new deal, Universal will develop his next two films, which he will direct, write and produce. On the side of Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions, they will also produce original films from other filmmakers that will be sponsored by Universal.
The alliance between Peele and Universal started prior his Oscar winning film for best original screenplay ‘Get Out’, two years ago. Peele was under a two-year contract with Universal and in the space of the two-year partnership, Peele’s produced films have fetched the film studio millions of box office counts. ‘Get Out’ which was the start of the deal grossed up to $176 million at the North American box office on a $5 million budget, whiles the prequel, ‘Us’ also generated a total of $255 million at the global box office.
Universal Film Entertainment Group Chairman, Donna Langley said of Peele, “Jordan has established himself as a premier voice and original storyteller with global appeal. He is leading a new generation of filmmakers that have found a way to tap into the cultural zeitgeist with groundbreaking content that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds.”
Jordan also disclosed in a statement at the announcement how Universal’s inclusion in his vision helped bring to the screens what he envisioned. “It would not have been possible to make ‘Get Out’ and ‘Us’ without the endless trust and support we received from Donna Langley and the team at Universal. Their willingness to take risks and their commitment to original content makes them the perfect collaborative partner for Monkeypaw. I couldn’t be more excited for what is ahead.”
Peele is currently in production on a feature remake of ‘Candyman’ under his Monkeypaw Productions banner. As a certified contender during award seasons, the one-time Oscar winner is buzzed by Hollywood experts to make a return come 2020 for multiple award nominations with his last produced feature ‘Us’.
