Jimmy Kimmel is returning to the Emmy Awards stage as show host for the 2020 ceremony. This will be the third time Kimmel takes over the wheels as show host at the Emmys. He hosted in 2012 and 2016.
“We know Jimmy Kimmel will deliver a uniquely entertaining, funny and moving Primetime Emmys show,” said Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment. “He’s a true master of ceremonies who reveres this industry and its people; and just as Jimmy has done with his own show over the past few months, he will tackle this momentous event with heart and humor, and bring some much-needed joy and optimism to our television colleagues and viewers at home.”
While other major award ceremonies, festivals and events are pushing back their original planned dates due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is however still leaning to its September 9, 2020 marked date. Details on how and where the ceremony will be held are yet to be determined.
“I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it,” said Kimmel.
Variety details insiders reports that organizers are looking at a full virtual ceremony as well as an in-person event that could still incorporate some virtual or other “non-traditional” elements. Both options are currently being weighed to arrive at a final conclusion later before nomination announcement sets in on Tuesday, July 18.
Kimmel, aside his late-night talk show on ABC ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ has been the go-to host for most Hollywood award ceremonies. For two years in a row 2017 – 2018, he hosted the Academy Awards inside the Dolby Theaters. He has also served as host and executive producer for ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ on ABC.
