Nearly two decades down the line now, Jennifer Lopez’s green diaphanous gown she wore to the Grammys is getting a reinvention for fashion lovers, but this time it’s coming in the form of sneakers.
The gown remake into a sneaker is a partnership effort between Concepts footwear and the original inventors of the gown, Versace. The sneakers will come in a limited-edition unisex Chain Reaction trainer printed with the tropical-leaf motif that embodied the gown’s colour.
The 2000 Grammy winning best dress caused huge stir on social media prompting millions of people to tap on Google search button in search of a second view of the dress. The huge traffic it generated on the platform caused the launch of Google’s Google Images Function, which is now used by every known celebrity and brand for the display of their photos on the site.
Designer of the history made gown Donatella Versace commented on the gown as a defining moment in her tenure of office as creative director for the label. She told the Canadian Press in 2008, “It was an unexpected success. The day after the Grammys, Jennifer was all over the place with people talking about her in that dress. It was one of those moments like Gianni had with Elizabeth Hurley and the safety-pin dress.”
The sneakers are available for both men and women in all sizes on Cncpts.com and prices at a cost of $1,075.
