Start the celebrations by feeling grateful.
If you have survived the entire year to celebrate yet another Christmas season, then you have a lot to be grateful for. Let the season start with a personal moment of reflection and gratitude. Count your many blessings and be grateful.
- Set a budget
Christmas will be less stressful if you set aside an amount for the celebrations disregarding pressures from people and media on what to purchase.
2. Let go of expectations
Disappointments are felt only in the light of expectations of things going according to plan. It is advisable to plan loosely and let things flow. Embrace the fact that plans don’t always work as expected and enjoy the season.
3. Keep it simple
You are bound to feel stressed when you over-schedule the season with activities. Instead of enjoying the serenity that the holidays bring, you only feel anxious and exhausted from all the planned activities.
4. Listen to music
What is Christmas without its carols? Thankfully, there are lots of contemporary covers of our favourite carols to enjoy. Get yourself a collection and play them to give your space the ambience of peace and joy the Christmas season brings.
5. Create and sustain traditions
Create a special tradition for your family, one thing that all members would love and look forward to do every year. It could be sharing gifts or everyone reading their gratitude list.
6. Baking time
Baking requires extra hands so make the season a time for the family to bond in the kitchen. Bake your favourite cookies, cakes and pastries and enjoy them together.
7. Make sure the party is fun and not perfect
If you are planning on throwing a party, let the main goal be to make sure the guests have fun. If you make perfection your goal and things don’t go according to plan, you will feel stressed out which will rob you of the joy of enjoying the season.
