Recently named best foreign language film at the Golden Globes, Bong Joon Ho’s seventh film installment ‘Parasite’ has received a direct limited series order at HBO.
The South-Korean drama tells the story of the poor Kim family, who, one by one, infiltrate the domestic lives of the wealthy Park family. As the story unfolds, the film takes a twist going against the initial plan of the Kim family. It centers on issues of greed, class discrimination among some minor setbacks that causes confusion between two family parties.
It is unclear whether the developing series will be a direct English language remake of the film or take a different direction, but still telling the ‘Parasite’ story. Kate Street Picture Company and CJ Entertainment are executive producing alongside Bong Joon Ho and ‘The Short’ helmer Adam McKay, who is in early talks to join the ep table.
‘Parasite’ aside its Golden Globe glory, became the first Korean film to take home Cannes Film Festival’s Palm d’Or award in 2019. It currently stands as South Korea’s submitted film for the 2020 Academy awards.
