We may not see him play Elvis Presley in theaters next year, but the former One Direction band member, Harry Styles is in talks to play Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’.
Directed by Rob Marshall, Eric is the human prince who catches Ariel’s eye. The mermaid saves the prince from drowning and then makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula to exchange her voice for legs in order for a chance to make him love her. He is key in the final battle against Ursula.
In the initial release of the live-action in 1989, featured Eric did not perform any song; but sources disclose that Styles, who will play Eric in the remake will perform on several occasions including two solos. Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy alongside Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina have already secured a spot in the cast list. R&B singer Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle fame is playing little mermaid, Ariel.
Production begins early 2020 with Marc Platt, Rob Marshall and John DeLuca producing.
