GUBA Foundation to embark on autism awareness church tour in the UK

In a bid to raise awareness on issues affecting communities, GUBA Foundation coordinated by Amma Owusu-Afriyie is embarking on a church tour in the UK to educate church members who also form part of the community about autism.

The autism awareness tour forms part of the organization’s ‘I Am Not A Stigma’ campaign launched in January 2019 to help eradicate stigma cases that follow autism. Taking the campaign from the streets and social media tags to churches is a formulated strategy of drawing closer to the communities, as confirmed by the foundations project manager Amma, “This church tour will help us get closer to the communities at hand, to ask questions about where these stigmas come from and how they can be addressed. The GUBA Foundation is extremely privileged and grateful to be able to have these discussions.”

Selected churches for the tour include Dunamis International in East Ham, Living God International in Stratford, Trinity Baptist Church in Croydon, Calvary Baptist Charismatic Church and others yet-to-be-announced. Stakeholders who will form the GUBA Foundation team for the autism awareness education comprise of volunteers and parents of autistic children. The team will engage congregants in a Q&A session to help clear their doubts and also inform them more about autism.

“It is important to engage our churches, educate them on what exactly autism is, and get parents who have children with autism to share their stories and experiences. It is important for the community to hear from these parents at the places where they want to go to, so they and their children are not looked upon as not being a part of society,” GUBA Foundation founder and CEO of GUBA Awards Dentaa Amoateng MBE noted.

The tour will take place throughout the month of August 2019.
