It’s official! Ghallywood, which has been the mainstream name in recognition of the Ghana Movie industry has been changed to Gollywood. This happened on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Ghana Film Summit, held at the Accra International Conference Center. The event was themed ‘Rebranding Ghana Film Industry to Rebrand Ghana’.
The change in name forms part of the effort in rebranding the Ghana Movie industry, which has over the years recorded low patronage by the public. The one-day event gave detailed analysis of the Ghana Film industry coupled with expert opinions on how it will develop. High profile personalities in film and corporate affairs such as, South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Madam Lulu Xingwana, President of the Ghana Film Producers Association, Augustine Abbey, National President of the Film Directors Guild of Ghana, Richard Yaw Boateng, President of Ghana Actors Guild, Samuel Fiscian shared their insight on production, distribution, funding, talent and audience development.
Key players in the movie fraternity who graced the occasion were also honored with Legendary Award scheme. Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buari, Adjetey Annang, Prince David Osei, Martha Ankomah, Bill Asamoah and more received the honorary title.
