Gabrielle Union, Kristina Bell alongside Kathy Bates and activist, Patrisse Cullors are the four women set to be honored at the seventh annual Women Making History Awards in Los Angeles.
The event, which is hosted by the National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) and its Los Angeles Regional Council, commemorates inspiring women who are making significant field related and global contributions. The brunch event, presented by American Airlines, NWHM Board Chair Susan D. Whiting and Morgan Stanley, will recognize all four women for making an impact in their professional endeavors, as well as their philanthropic work in social justice, women and children’s health and safety, and education.
“Our nation’s greatest successes rest on American women’s shoulders and it’s time to acknowledge their active roles in our history-the roles our grandmothers, mothers, aunts, granddaughters, daughters and nieces play in the workplace, community, and home,” said Whiting. “Our honoree this year exemplify women’s contributions to the social, cultural, economic and political life of our country. America’s history remains unfinished. It’s time to complete it,” added Whiting.
Bates currently serves as a spokesperson for the Lymphatic Education and Research Network aside her acting career, whiles Bell is a co-founder of the social enterprise group, This Bar Saves Lives, a granola bar company that works to end childhood malnutrition worldwide. Union has also been involved with several breast health and sexual violence prevention initiatives. Cullors will be recognized in part for serving as co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Global Network and founder of the LA-based grassroots organization Dignity and Power now.
Past honorees of the Women Making History Award include former first lady Laura Bush, Kerry Washington, Viola Davis, Maya Angelou, Tracee Ellis Ross, Instagram COO Marne Levine, SpaceX president – COO Gwynne Shotwell, Sophia Bush, Rachel Zoe and Rita Moreno.
The 2018 edition will be held on Saturday, September 15 at the Beverly Hilton.
