Felicity Huffman is making a return to acting after serving 11-days in prison following her college admission in 2019.
According to Deadline, Huffman is heading to ABC for an untitled comedy inspired by Susan Savage, the real-life owner of the Triple-A baseball team the Sacramento River Cats. Becky Hartman Edwards is writing the script. Huffman, Savage and Edwards will executive produce alongside Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor and Artists First’s Joel Zadak. Zack Gottsagen is producing and also star opposite Huffman. ABC Studios holds rights to the project.
The plot follows Huffman as the unlikely owner of a minor-league baseball team. After suddenly losing her husband and inheriting his beloved team, she is forced to navigate her new normal with the help of her dysfunctional family, including her oldest son (Gottsagen), a baseball devotee with Down syndrome, her work family and the Sacramento community at large.
Huffman is a big figure in the Television front with multiple Emmy nominations over the course of her decades long career on screen. She won an Emmy for ‘Desperate Housewives’ in 2005.
The role comes as the first project Huffman is committed to since the college admission scandal broke-out last year. Huffman pleaded guilty in May 2019 to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services after allegedly paying $15,000, disguised as a charitable donation, to have another person take her daughter’s SAT exam. She served 11-day in prison out of a 14-day jail sentence. She was also ordered to do community service and pay a fine following her plea.
