The Telande Tea Garden, the first notable restaurant opened by celebrity chef Kinorah Awini. It is a public garden in the heart of Cantonments where tea, cocktails, small chops and light refreshments are served. It has gained popularity since it opened in December. The menu involved a category of salads to the next, main meal and dessert and then winding down to the afternoon tea menu, their several tea collections, cocktails and mocktails.
I loved the different themes at Telande Tea Garden! It was like flipping through my childhood fairytale books at one point. One end of the garden had a princess theme, the other gave off the vibe of a beach front and the other a feel of a private thatched Cuban cabana. The ambiance was serene and peaceful.
Now to my selection of the menu.
The Moscato Blush Cocktail: Skip the fancy ice, put in popsicles instead!
The mosketto rose is a non-sparkling dessert wine with a hint of fizz and its fruity notes worked well with the watermelon popsicle. The yuzu syrup gave this cocktail a tart flavor. I couldn’t really taste the vodka as the watermelon and yuzu syrup sort of overshadowed it so it tasted like a mocktail instead.
From afar, the dissolved watermelon popsicle gave the cocktail an exotic look, but up close, the dissolved pulp of the watermelon made the cocktail look like it was blushing. It was interesting to look at. I’m guessing that’s where the signature name of this cocktail Moscato Blush was derived from. The mosketto rose and cold watermelon popsicle combined to make a cooling and fizzy cocktail.
Fried Pork with Sweet Potato Fries: Orange is my new favorite colour.
The food was visually appealing and the orangey colour of the orange sweet potatoes added a splash of colour to my plate and made it pop! The sweet potato fries were salty-sweet, crunchy and melted in my mouth.
The fried pork just lacked a deep, satisfying flavor with notable delicious fatty notes that I was looking out for. It unfortunately didn’t excite my taste buds and was not memorable. And if I don’t remember it, then it didn’t hit me hard enough. It however had a tender texture.
The menu had just three options of desserts. I found the dessert options to be quite limited. I died a little inside when I was told I couldn’t have the Zowe Cheesecake for reasons I just wasn’t privy to. I was so looking forward to trying it.
Our orders were swiftly prepared and the wait staff were generally nice.
Telande Tea Garden is a great place to have one’s hen night or baby shower because of its laid-back, tea party vibe. The Telande Tea Garden pays attention to little details which gives off a sense of luxury in a moderately priced restaurant.
It’s #TelandeExperience.
