Africa’s culture is one of the most diverse in the world and has given rise to the term, “Rainbow Nation”. With an estimation of 1500 to 2000 official languages, the rich culture of each of these groups brings its own vibrancy to our diversity. Each day, we put on clothes that do more than just cover up bodies. We choose clothes that represent our personalities, our moods, the times we live in, our ambitions and our desires but doesn’t promote unity due to its diversity and because of that Liri Designs was established in the year 2000 by a passionate fashion designer graduate from a township in Eastern Cape (South Africa), Qaqamba Ndwandwa influenced by cultural and social attitudes and attributes. With a main objective to fuse diversity into the artistic juices of her inner being whose work is as controversial, and as influential, as traditional art.
Liri Designs not clothes that can only be classified as for Zulus, Sothos, Tswanas nor strictly traditional wear but clothes which are functional as well aesthetically pleasing. Designed for everyone and any occasion no consideration of who is likely to wear the garments nor situations in which it will be worn. With wide range of materials, colours, patterns and styles to choose from. Nonrestrictive everyday wear. Can be worn at day or night, winter or summer, by children or grown ups’, male or female. Open for all and authenticity is key, ensuring its clients feel presentable and comfortable with whatever Liri Design they decide to embark on.
